Rauf Khalilov was born on October 6, 1981 in Baku, Azerbaijan, in a very creative family of artist and musician Azad Khalilov and Gamar Khalilova. Since the very childhood Rauf was interested in designing, and was fascinated by science fiction and space. He studied piano at the Music Department of National School of Arts named after A.N. Alekperov. Later he was transferred to the fine art department of the same school. He was awarded high school diploma at the department of Graphic Arts of Azerbaijan State Arts Academy. In 2003, Rauf Khalilov started his career as a movie director by producing few experimental short films such as: "One Minute and Four Seconds", «Exit», «3 Days», etc.

In 2008 he was invited to Los Angeles as a director to work on his first full-length film "Ideal World". Since 2009 he got engaged in electronic music, releasing the "Monopolar World" album and several famous singles such as "Venus", "Good Morning Apollo", "Out of Milky Way".

Later he continued his work as a film director by shooting "The Chairs" animated film and short film "Stability". Both of these films were demonstrated at the Cannes Film Festival short films section in 2011 and 2012.
